Thirty-two-year-old Dante Autullo was working with a nail gun at his home in suburban Chicago when he misfired, causing a nail to go whizzing past his head, or so he thought. Mr. Autullo had actually just shot himself in the head with a 3 1/2 inch nail, he just didn’t realize it. Autullo proceeded to continue working, spending more than a day with the nail stuck in his brain.
After experiencing nausea and headaches the next day, Mr. Autullo went to the hospital, where an X-ray uncovered the nail. Both Mr. Autullo and his family were flabbergasted. “Un-freaking-believable,” his fiancee Gail Glaenzer said to the Naperville Sun.
“They were shocked because he was walking and talking, and he had it in for 36 hours,” Autullo’s mother, Jerri Autullo told the Sun. “I hoped that it wasn’t going to be as bad as it looked.”
Autullo was taken to Christ Medical Center, where he had surgery Thursday morning. He’s recovering there today, eager to get back to work.
“He’s in the darn hospital yelling that there’s a big snowstorm tomorrow and how’s he going to plow?” Glaenzer told the Sun. “This is from a guy who just got his brain cut open.”

HAVE A NICE X-RAY!!!!
1. “There did not appear to be any correlation between body mass index and inaccuracies in the preoperative template.”
This point is open for debate. J2 Medical would like to hear everyone’s thoughts and experiences on this matter and will be happy to publish any results that we recieve.
2. “Digital templating is an accurate tool to preoperatively plan total hip arthroplasty. The accuracy demonstrated in this study should be achieved easily with any digital templating software.”
3. “The benefit comes from the ability to scale the templates to the actual x-ray magnification.”
This is the principle that J2 Medical was founded upon and precisely why the Akucal scaling tool was developed. The Akucal is the best selling and most functional scaling tool in the world. It’s our job to make digital templating worth the jump and we accept the challenge.
Digital radiography is becoming the standard of care for many hospitals and clinics worldwide. The introduction of this new standard has led to the development of arthroplasty templating software. We sought to compare our results using the standard acetate method with the new software method. Our digital pre operative plan was accurate to within 1 size in 78% of the acetabular components and 90% of the femoral components. The manually templated plan was accurate to within 1 size in 67% of the acetabular components and 82% of the femoral components. There did not appear to be any correlation between body mass index and inaccuracies in the preoperative template.
Have you ever tried to pick the right wrench to loosen a bolt. First, you take a look at the bolt and then at the wrench assortment and guess which wrench is the magic wand. The odds are against even the best mechanic to get the right fit the first time, every time. Sometimes it’s not the right one and you still think it may be or it will still work and larger issues become apparent later when you have to readdress the situation. Now think what would happen if every time that you guessed the wrong wrench, you had to throw it in the waste bin and buy a new one.$$$
This was common practice for orthopedic surgeons before orthopedic templating software promised to make the process of pre surgical planning more accurate and efficient. If the surgeon misjudged the replacement, there was no putting it back into inventory. It gets added to the bill of sale. Even simple math adds up very quickly when you’re two or even three sizes off multiple times a day.$$$
So, those days are long gone right?
Well, not exactly…
