J2 Medical’s Tech of the Month-August 2011

Congratulations to Shawn Gottschalk from UPMC’s Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh as J2 Medical’s “Have a Nice X-Ray” Tech of the Month for August 2011! 

Shawn has been at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh since May 2009 after attending UPMC School of Radiologic Technology.  In addition to Shawn’s hard working nature, reliability, and versatility, his colleagues nominated Shawn due to his:

• IT knowledge and willingness to assist the PACS Administrator whenever needed
• Positive attitude that rubs off on both patients and co-workers
• His comical nature that helps both co-workers through the day and patients through a difficult procedure
• Vast knowledge of the field that allows him to be effective both in the main hospital as well as satellite facilities
• Troubleshooting abilities that allows him to fix problems so he and his co-workers can work efficiently and effectively

Congrats again Shawn and keep up the great work!  I am sure the children and families at your facility appreciate your knowledge, positive attitude and support in their time of pain and suffering.

J2 Medical’s Technologist of the Month-July 2011

In 2003, Rebecca Rivera had no idea her degree from WVU School of Radiology and Alderson Broaddus College would lead her west to the Golden State.  After graduating, Rebecca first obtained a position at a family clinic in West Virginia.  Although she learned a great deal and gained valuable experience and knowledge, she felt she was destined for a career elsewhere in the country.  So she packed up, bought a one-way ticket, and headed 2500 miles west to San Diego, CA to accept a position at Grossmont Hospital.  After four years at Grossmont, marriage to the love of her life, and a Master’s degree in Business Administration, Rebecca again decided it was time to move on…but she didn’t go far.  She accepted a position at UCSD Medical Center as the Lead OR Radiologic Technologist. 

Rebecca’s co-workers nominated her for J2 Medical’s Technologist of the Month recognition due to her:

• Positive Attitude
• Meticulous attention to detail
• Service on UCSD Medical Center’s Customer Satisfaction Committee
• Continuously working to improve patient services
• Always in compliance with and promotes patient safety
• Ambitious character as a leader and commitment to the team effort

As for future plans, Rebecca states, “You never know where life will take you.  I just hope to inspire others to follow their dreams, work hard, and enjoy life.”

Thank you Rebecca for all that you have done for the field of Radiographic Technology and you certainly have inspired others with your hard work and dedication to the field.  We wish you continued success in your career at UCSD Medical Center!

J2 Medical’s Technologist of the Month-June 2011

It gives me great pleasure to announce J2 Medical’s first Technologist of the Month-Wanda McCormick from the Mount Carmel Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio!  After raising her three children and being self-employed for 15 years, Wanda decided it was time to learn something new and dove right into the field of radiographic technology at the age of 46.  Wanda stated that she was both “excited and frightened” about her choice to return to school.  However, she did not want to regret not taking the time to learn a new profession. 

17 years later, Wanda still has no regrets of learning and excelling in this profession stating, “I like patient contact and to help them have a good day in some small way is rewarding…I have been on a wondrous journey of learning as our technology has changed rapidly.  Along the way I’ve made some wonderful friendships…I am blessed to have been given this opportunity later in my life.”

Wanda’s colleagues have the honor to see her passion and dedication to the profession of radiographic technology on a daily basis.  Though only through words, it is easy to envision Wanda’s enthusiasm for her career as stated in the positive accolades from her co-workers, including (Wanda is):

• Always positive and willing to do whatever the patient and the department needs.
• Always helping others when work is caught up in her area.
• Flexible in her personal schedule by offering to pick up additional shifts to meet coverage for vacations or others’ sick time.
• Kind, compassionate, and caring to all her patients.
• First to volunteer to help others.
• Generous as she has helped students financially who have struggled to meet the monetary demands of higher education.
• Accurate and precise by providing quality radiographic images.

Wanda is not just an outstanding healthcare provider on the job, but off the job as well.  Her husband suffered a severe stroke six years ago and if it wasn’t for Wanda’s comforting and caring spirit, he likely would not still be alive today.  And Wanda carries that same comfort and caring spirit to her patients whom she barely knows.

Thank you Ms. McCormick for you exemplary performance as we wish you continued success in your career and may your husband’s health continue to improve!
